The Ministry Developer will partner with specific lay-led congregations, to empower the people and equip lay leaders for their mission, witness and ministry in the Church and out in the world.
The Ministry Developer is a new position, working under the leadership of the Rural Missioner and in collaboration with the emotional health facilitator as a key member of the Rural Ministry Team, which also includes a part-time Administrative Assistant for Mission. This new position is but one sign among many of a transformation that has been happening in the Diocese over the past several years. A Spirit-led paradigm shift has profoundly changed how we perceive rural congregations, and how we seek to support rural lay leaders. What was once a fringe concept now enjoys wide support among the laity, clergy, and officers of the Diocese. As such, the Ministry Developer will be working in a highly supportive team environment.
The Anglican Diocese of Calgary is home to a strong rural population - over 60% of all the congregations in the Diocese are rural or small town congregations. The people of rural and small town Southern Alberta are highly diverse: farmers and ranchers (we have some of the best beef in the world); those involved with natural resource development; small business people and creatives. Communities can encompass indigenous people, fifth-generation settlers, and brand-new arrivals to Canada - and everything in between. Each community is very individual, and we have a wide theological diversity in our midst.
The Anglican Diocese of Calgary is located in beautiful Southern Alberta, Canada, where the prairies meet the mountains; home of the famous Banff National Park. The Diocesan Office is located in the surprisingly cosmopolitan city of Calgary, which came second on the list of the World's Most Livable Cities in 2018. For those who prefer to live in smaller communities, Calgary is surrounded by a number of vibrant and growing towns. We enjoy a moderate cost of living, and a high quality of life. Our public schools, universal health care facilities, roads and international airport are world-class.
