Children and Young Families

WORKING GROUP ON CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

On January 23rd, this Working Group met, with a newly expanded membership representation from many serving in these ministry areas around the diocese, with a desire to follow up on the findings of the gathering events held last year.

We began discussing future plans and goals.  Two areas of focus arose:

  1. facilitating and enabling ways to connect those serving as leaders in these ministries, both online and face to face, to share resources and ideas
  2. future events to help connect families and youth around the diocese.

Two sub-groups were formed, to enable these separate ministry areas to explore and plan more specifically for their area of ministry.  Their work will be on-going in the coming months.

The Working Group will be meeting again in the Spring to re-connect with how things are beginning to proceed.

If you are interested in either of these ministry areas, you are invited to join the Facebook Group as per the link information below to begin connecting with those in the Sub-Group and others throughout the diocese.

Should  you have questions or concerns about any of this information, please contact one of the Co-Chairs.

How can our places of worship be welcoming, safe and spiritually-fulfilling for those who have cognitive impairments such as dementia or Alzheimer's?  For many of us, we are aware of the need to respond but are not sure what that means or how it looks.  To help us learn about and implement simple yet powerful ways for our churches to become "friendly" places, a learning workshop is being offered by St. Martin Anglican Church.  This Saturday morning worship will be led by gerontological nurse specialist Mollie Cole, RN.  This event is free of charge, and will be from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon, Saturday, November 25, at Know Presbyterian Church, 3704 - 37th Street SW, in Calgary.  All are welcome, and a special invitation is extended to clergy and other congregational leaders.  To learn more and to RSVP (by November 20), please contact the Rev. Natasha Brubaker at (403) 249-3014 or email natasha.stmartins@telus.net.
