Children and Young Families

WORKING GROUP ON CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

On January 23rd, this Working Group met, with a newly expanded membership representation from many serving in these ministry areas around the diocese, with a desire to follow up on the findings of the gathering events held last year.

We began discussing future plans and goals.  Two areas of focus arose:

  1. facilitating and enabling ways to connect those serving as leaders in these ministries, both online and face to face, to share resources and ideas
  2. future events to help connect families and youth around the diocese.

Two sub-groups were formed, to enable these separate ministry areas to explore and plan more specifically for their area of ministry.  Their work will be on-going in the coming months.

The Working Group will be meeting again in the Spring to re-connect with how things are beginning to proceed.

If you are interested in either of these ministry areas, you are invited to join the Facebook Group as per the link information below to begin connecting with those in the Sub-Group and others throughout the diocese.

Should  you have questions or concerns about any of this information, please contact one of the Co-Chairs.

This is a question that is frequently asked.

The Quarterly Prayer Calendar is made up as a Word document and PDF, so it has ended up under Documents rather than Calendars.

To find it, go to Documents on the Menu bar.  From there, it is 4. Prayer Calendar.

We try to have the next Quarter's information posted on the Website by the middle of the month previous to the start of the Quarter.

The Synod Steering Committee for the Diocesan Synod being held October 13 & 14 has announced the registration fees for clergy and lay members of Synod to be $90 per member if payment is received on or before September 8, 2017.  After this date, the registration fee will be $120.  Payments must be made using the pre-payment form found on the Website, under Documents, #5. Synods, then Synod 2017-10 October.  If necessary, cheques can be post-dated to September 8, 2017.

Clergy Members of Synod are licensed clergy of the Diocese of Calgary.  Lay Members of Synod are named on the "Notice of Election of Lay Members of Synod" form that is part of the Annual Return forms.

Anyone else who would like to attend the Synod is required to register as an Observer.  As in previous years, the number of observers is extremely limited, and registration will happen on a first-come, first-served basis.   The registration fee for Observers is $45 and must be paid with the submission of the registration form.

Questions about the Synod registration process can be directed to the Diocesan Office.

Looking for a way to deepen your understanding of the Christian faith and to enhance the connection between what you believe and how you live your daily life?  The Education for Ministry program combines independent study and weekly small group discussions to bring a basic grounding of theological education to Christian lay people.

EfM explores the content and origins of the Bible, follows Church history from its earliest days, and examines issues in Judeo-Christian theology.  Guided theological reflections help to connect our faith understanding with Scripture and Christian tradition, and translate this into the cultural context of today.

Sessions run from September to May/June.  There are three groups currently meeting in Calgary.

For past students, there is also Mentor training being planned.

For more information, please contact Carol Tubman (ctubman@shaw.ca; (403) 277-9104) or Jennifer Solem (jsolem@shaw.ca; (403) 804-2768).
