Missional Minute
My husband works from home, and his “environment” – where he encounters others – for his workplace is mainly through Zoom and Teams online meetings. A few weeks ago, his co-worker shared that his wife, a woman in her thirties and mother of two small children, is battling cancer. When I learned of this, I was moved to add her name to our Diocesan Chapel prayer list. In a meeting this morning, my husband shared about the upcoming Ordination Service. This co-worker asked questions. Being un-churched, he had no knowledge of what such an event entails. By explaining the Service and what a Deacon of the church does, my husband found himself being missional. Sometimes we stumble into missional moments. It’s been said that we should be ready with an “elevator pitch” for those moments of the unexpected call to share our faith. The Apostle Peter writes, “Always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope that you have.” (1 Peter 3:15 NIV) Think about your environments, your opportunities to be a witness for Christ, and consider your “elevator pitch” in preparation for those unexpected moments. |

Job Posting - Full-Time IncumbentCathedral Church of the Redeemer, Calgary The Cathedral Church of the Redeemer, Calgary, is seeking a full-time Incumbent Priest, who will potentially become the Dean of Calgary. The Cathedral Church of the Redeemer is in downtown Calgary and serves a diverse community. Our neighbours include expensive high-rise condos, ministries, and services for Calgary's homeless population, and much that falls in between. We are a community that lives out its vocation to be "a place for the soul in the heart of this city." We are seeking a candidate who is versatile, energetic, and gifted, and will embrace our history, but will also look toward the future for our parish and community. To view the parish profile and apply for the position, please contact The Ven. Dr. Pilar Gateman, Diocesan Executive Officer. Deadline for applications has been extended until May 27, 2022. |
Job Posting - Full-Time RectorSt. Laurence, Calgary The Anglican Parish of St. Laurence, Calgary is seeking a full- time rector. St. Laurence, located in southwest Calgary, Alberta, is a spunky, open-minded Anglican community. We love to ask questions, experiment with new things and, through the Wisdom Centre, to contribute to the larger conversation about how to renew and revitalize Christian life in the 21st century. As a 60-year-old parish, we have never been reluctant to embrace new challenges and to bravely travel down “roads less taken.” We are seeking a spiritual leader to walk with us, side-by-side, into the future, always keeping Jesus’ steadfast instruction to “be not afraid” in our collective hearts. Would you like to join us on this journey? To obtain a parish profile and/or to apply, please contact: The Ven. Dr. Pilar Gateman, Diocesan Executive Officer. |

Worldwide Knit in Public DaySaturday, June 11 To celebrate "Worldwide Knit in Public Day" (who knew there was such a thing?!?), on Saturday, June 11, knitters at Holy Cross, Calgary are invited to bring a knitting project, a lawn chair, a hat and a water bottle, and park ourselves in front of the main doors of the church to work on prayer shawls or a personal project - in public! Those who crochet or do hand work would be welcome, too. This activity will not only give knitters an opportunity to work on something wonderful and build community, but also offer outreach to anyone passing by, as we highlight our Prayer Shawl ministry. We also challenge other parishes to hold their own "Knit In Public" events (and we’d love to see pictures!). For more information about this project, please contact Carol Tubman. |

Donations for Relief Efforts
As the war in Ukraine continues, so too does the generosity of Anglicans across the country. To date, $650,000 has been donated to PWRDF to support relief efforts. These funds have come from individuals and parishes; many churches are coordinating ongoing campaigns. PWRDF has allocated funds to several partners: · $100,000 to Hungarian Interchurch Aid supporting Ukranians on both sides of the Hungarian border · $50,000 to HelpAge International supporting seniors and their families on both sides of the Moldovan border · $64,000 to Initiative E+ providing medical care to Ukrainians in and around Kyiv injured in the attacks · $64,000 to Fight for Right to operate a 24-hour hotline for Ukrainians with disabilities seeking evacuation, medication and psychological and legal assistance PWRDF is commited to stewarding our donors' financial support wisely. To that end, we are continuing to identify partners who will meet the urgent needs of Ukrainians and have the most impact. Please continue to pray for the people of Ukraine and the work of our partners. |
