Response to TRC Call to Action

In response to the report and recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, KAIROS has launched Winds of Change, an education and action campaign.  The first phase of the campaign is Education for Reconciliation, a petition campaign in partnership with the Legacy of Hope Foundation that calls for the implementation of the TRC’s Call to Action #62.i:

We call upon the federal, provincial, and territorial governments, in consultation and collaboration with Survivors, Aboriginal peoples and educators to make age-appropriate curriculum on residential schools, Treaties and Aboriginal peoples’ historical and contemporary contributions to Canada a mandatory education requirement for Kindergarten to Grade Twelve students.

Those who attended PWRDF’s National Gathering in November 2015 will recall that we undertook our own learning initiative in the form of the “Mapping Exercise” as one step in our journey to understand and “deepen our relationships with Indigenous peoples.”  In keeping with that strategic goal, PWRDF volunteers and supporters are invited to sign the petition and encourage others to do so.  KAIROS’s goal is to collect as many signatures as possible on petitions that will be presented in provincial and territorial legislatures in the spring of this year (2016).  The deadline for petitions to reach KAIROS is March 15, 2016.

Information about the campaign and the petition, along with petition forms can be accessed by clicking here.

If you have any questions about the campaign generally or the petition specifically, please contact KAIROS directly or send an e-mail message to Suzanne Rumsey.

Church Calendars

Due to Augsburg Fortress Canada being purchased by David C. Cook Distribution, the order forms for church calendars normally sent out by the ACW the end of May will be delayed.  We have been advised by David C. Cook that they have not made a decision as to when the calendars will be available or what the cost will be for 2017.  As soon as this information is available, the forms will be sent to the all ACWs and parishes by the Church Calendar Secretary, Mary Anne Armstrong.

Please check the Diocese of Calgary ACW website for further information.

New Diocese Website Launched

New website for the Anglican Diocese of Calgary.

Our new website has launched!

As you can see, we are still missing pictures, especially pictures of clergy and staff and pictures of parish events.

Parishes are asked to send announcements of parish events (preferably including a picture) to the Diocesan Office.

  • Pictures of clergy should be in portrait orientation, with a resolution of at least 1 megapixel (e.g. 768 x 1024).
  • Pictures of church buildings or parish events should be in landscape (16 x 9) format, also with a resolution of at least 1 megapixel (e.g. 1280 x 720).

Most recent cell phones have cameras that take photos at higher resolutions than 1 megapixel so photos with those cameras will be fine for the website. Questions about the requirements for the photos can be sent to the same email address above.

Stewardship Resources (TENS)

The Diocese of Calgary has recently become a member of The Episcopal Network for Stewardship (TENS), an association of church leaders in the United States and Canada who “understand, practice, and proclaim God’s call to generosity”. For those who are interested, there are a number of free materials on the TENS website, including a newsletter, a blog, and selected bulletin inserts. However, as a result of the Diocese becoming a member, all parishes in the Diocese are now able to access the members-only resources that are available, including “God the Giver” annual giving materials (newsletter inserts; letters to new members, members whose giving has remained the same, and members who tithe; thank you letters; prayers of the people; and half-page reflection/discussion bulletin inserts).

Parishes that are interested in accessing all the TENS resources can contact the Diocesan Office Finance Officer for the required userid and password.
