Missional Minute

"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light." 1 Peter 2:9

Our Diocesan Vision Statement: To be a church that is inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit; a church that reflects the virtue and grace of Jesus; a church reaching out to proclaim God's love to a broken world.

To be "a royal priesthood, a holy nation" is a marvelous, precious gift and call.  But the "in order" conveys so much.  How are you making that beautiful call active in your life?  What are concrete "mighty acts" of God in Jesus that have shaped who you are?  What things has God done in your life that you have, or can, proclaimed in the world?

ACW Fall Retreat Day

ACW Fall Retreat Day

Saturday, October 19, St. Peter Anglican Church, Okotoks

You are invited to a Women's Fall Retreat Day, hosted by the Anglican Church Women.  The theme will be, "An Eye To See" led by the Rev. Dr. Norman Knowles, in a Visio Divina format using the Saint John's Bible.  Visio Divina shares roots with the ancient practice of Lectio Divina, inviting one to encounter the Divine through images.  The Saint John's Bible invites readers of the Word to "listen...with the ear of your heart" and to "see with the eyes of faith."  Saturday, October 19 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at St. Peter's, Okotoks.  Please bring a bag lunch.  To register, click here or text/call 1 (403) 678-1163.

Healing Conference

Healing Conference

Archbishop Greg will be the keynote speaker and Celebrant at a full-day Healing Conference, to be held at St. Luke, Calgary, on Saturday, October 19, beginning at 8:30 am.  Three workshops include Finding Healing Through the Power of Prayer; The Healing Gift of Presence; and Forgiveness.  Everyone is invited.  To register, obtain a brochure/poster, or for more information, please click here.  Information for Clergy can be found here.  Online registration for the Conference will close at 8:00 pm on Friday, October 18.  Registration will also be open at the door (cash or cheque) at 8:30 Saturday morning.

Cloth and Connection

Cloth and Connection

St. Andrew Anglican Church, Tuesday, October 22 at 7:30 pm

While a quilt is typically defined as three layers stitched together, the result is vastly more than the sum of the materials.  There is a myriad of layers of meaning, memory and connection that at first don't seem visible, but are often transmitted by the visual and tactile experience.  Such is the power of cloth.  As quilters, weavers, fibre artists and lovers of textiles, we know this.  Imagine opening that experience up to a community to (re)discover together.  Join Vancouver textile artist Thomas Roach to hear about his experience leading large textile-based community projects and how it has changed his approach to textile artmaking.

Thomas recently managed the (in)finite: spiritual conversations in cloth exhibition at Christ Church Cathedral in Vancouver.  He created the Prayers of the Church Project in 2016, and co-led the Common Threads Indigo Quilt Project (2012-2014).  He is currently engaged in a similar project with the community of St. George, Calgary.

St. Andrew's is at 1611 St. Andrew's Place NW (across 29 Street from Foothills Hospital. Feel free to park anywhere on the street, as we have a "parking relaxation.")
