Missional Minute

Mother Teresa was once understood to have said:

“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love”

Sometimes when we think of mission, we think of it as some grand work. As though mission means trying to completely change the entire face of our lives, the church, the Diocese. What would happen if we each began to simply think of things we are already doing in a missional way? Instead of creating something new or a huge plan… what are you already doing in your life, your parish, and community that could be thought of in a more missional way?

Could we do small things with great love…

A letter from The Most Rev. Linda Nicholls Archbishop and Primate Anglican Church of Canada

Friends in Christ,

The Primates’ Task Group, on which I served, presented its final report to the Primates’ meeting in January.   Included in its work was a key recommendation to ask Anglicans worldwide to enter a season of repentance.

We are deeply aware of the pain of division in our midst.    All have shared in hurts given and received.   In the spirit of Matthew 7:3-5, a call to prayer and self-reflection in repentance has been made for Lent 5 – March 29, 2020.

Coldest Night of the Year Annual Walk Update

Coldest Night of the Year Annual Walk Update

Anglicans on the Move’s 21-member team for the February 22 Coldest Night of the Year walk, came from 3 parishes - St. James, Good Shephard, and St. Lawrence. The team raised $5,500 for Kairos Affordable Housing project and Feed the Hungry, both Calgary organizations.

Total funds raised at this location was $72,639 by 40 teams and 269 walkers. Our headquarters, located at the Eau Claire Market, was a hub of activity as we registered for the walk and submitted our cash and cheque donations. Representatives from Kairos and Feed the Hungry expressed their thanks for our efforts and Mayor Naheed Nenshi inspired us to continue strengthening community through positive collective action.

And then we were off and walking. As it turned out, the weather was very favourable for our 2, 5, or 10 km walks. Volunteers cheered us on along the route and when we returned, we were treated to a delicious, hot chili dinner.  All in all, it was a very enjoyable evening!
